International Tiger Day

This was one of my explorations of different approaches and when I was doing a lot of tiger studies. I thought I would post it for International Tiger Day.

An Experiment with tigers

As I was working on one a current project that involves a tiger, I played with different ways of representing it. I ended up doing 5 of these. It is a water color background with black ink for the tiger. All of them have been sold. I will post the other four on Monday.

It has been a busy day and I almost thought I would not get one done. I have said it before and I will say it again. People are more important than art. Most of my day was focused on other people.

So here it is. The Tiger is an endangered species. It is threatened by loss of habitat, human and tiger interaction and climate change. They are the largest of the Asian big cats. You can find out more at the World Life Site

This is the beginning of multiple projects for me and the end of months of a struggle with trying to figure out how to draw a tiger. They are difficult creatures to draw. I took the advice from Denis Nolan and Bunny Carter when I was in the MFA at University of Hartford, Hartford Art School and drew many tigers to get it down. I am grateful for their wisdom.
