#25 of 100 Elephants Tusks

I continues to be influenced by prehistoric elephants with number 25. I am amazed at the variety of tusks that they had. Here I pushed the amount of tusks. It is not my favorite, but I like the idea. I will continue to explore this idea.

#24 of 100 Elephants: Short Trunk

Here I went back to playing with proportions again. I have been studying ancient extinct elephants like the platybelodon. This was somewhat inspired by that and others. I am also taking the back of the head from the Gorilla Elephant #22.

#23 of 100 Elephants: Bee

I continued with the transforming animal theme here. I believe I was in the midst of working on the art project of my fears when I did this. I was drawing a lot of bees.

This one is also sold.

#21 of 100 Elephants: Punk

In my wild youthful days I drew punk elephants in pink tutus. This time it is just a punk elephant with a plaid bow tie.

I am happy to say that this one has already been sold.

#20 of 100 Elephants

Here I started playing with the shape of the head. Once the forehead was so large it screamed mad scientist and the rest of this character followed.

Its the Year of the Dog Happy New Year!

This day marks the Chinese New Year and the beginning of the year of the dog.  I chose to depict the shih tzu a breed of dog that originated from China.

What makes this year special is that we had the opportunity to host two university students from China for three weeks. It was joy getting to know them and learn more about China. I was also born in the year of the dog.

#18 of 100 Elephants: Pterodactyl

After working on the t-rex, I tried my had at transforming a pterodactyl into an elephant. I do not think this is very aerodynamic.

#17 of 100 Elephants: T-Rex

I like dinosaurs. The thought of a large Tyrannosaurus Rex Elephant just made me giggle. The small arms with the elephant paws and the trunk just increased the awkwardness of the creature in a delightful way.

#16 of 100 Elephants: Head in a Jar

I went out on a limb in my thinking here and pushed my creativity. I do not know why I am so fascinated with this concept, but I love drawing heads and brains in jars. Its just fun. I think I might do a series of things in jars one day.

#14 of 100 Elephants: Square Head

From the complexity of #13 I went to a more simplified and basic #14 all based on a square head. There is a childlike innocence to this guy that I like.

I will also note that the elephants are starting to sell. So if there is one you want I would recommend reaching out to me. Again, the are $5 each.

#13 of 100 Elephants: Gorgon

This was an exercise in curves and playing with the thickness of the line. From the outset I wanted gain more experience and skill in using a pen. I tend to use a pencil because of the ability to correct mistakes. (I also like the look and feel of it. The Idea came from the thought of an elephant trunk being like a snake and I just pushed the ice more to a gorgon. Instead of having snake hair, the trunk became multiple snakes.

#11 of 100 Elephants

As part of the 100 Something assignment, I asked the students to be inspired by art work while visiting the Boston Museum of Art. They were to create at least two characters that were inspired by what they saw.

I spent most of my time absorbing the Japanese Woodblock exhibit and created this elephant based on a bird demon. It just screamed turn me into an elephant with a bow tie and a bowler hat.

#10 of 100 Elephants: Long Neck

With #9 being a balloon, I thought what if the neck was like the string to the balloon head. This is how # 10 was conceived.

#9 of 100 Elephants: Balloon

Yesterday got away from me. I had the whole day planed and very little happened the way I planned it. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't what was planned. As such I was not able to post #9.

This one took a different turn. I was able to have a moment of pure creativity where I did not do the obvious. This is one of the things I have learned in this challenge. As you work on being creative, you need to to the obvious in order to get to point of creativity. This is another one of my favorites.

#8 of 100 Elephants: Small but Big Heart

#8 was again a practice in opposites. Where #7 was tall #8 went short, but with this one I was able to add little more personality with the stance, the big innocent eyes and the act of giving something.
