Starting a New 100 Somethings

A few months ago one of my past theater directors reached out to me and other friends and cast members to do a 25th anniversary reading of Charlies Aunt. We did a performance via zoom. It was a joy to work with these people again. Many of us had not worked together in years.A month later we did a reading of Present Laughter by Noel Coward and A week ago I had the pleasure of reading the part of Elwood P. Dowd in Harvey.

I have fallen in love with this play and now have added Elwood as one of my dream roles. Others include King Arthur in Camelot, Charles Condomine in Blythe Spirit, Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors, and The Narrator from Into the Woods.

While Doing these readings, I was inspired for my next 100 Somethings project. I am going to illustrate and design 100 Play posters. I currently have a list of 55 plays and musicals (Including all the Shakespeare plays) that I will work on over the next who knows how long. I am not putting a deadline on this. I am counting the poster for Henry the 6th part 2 as my first.

Harvey, the Pulitzer Prize winning play of 1940 is the 2nd of 100.

Up next is Charlies' Aunt.

It's National Bow Tie Day!

In honor of National Bow Tie Day I am posting the beginnings of a series of Illustrations. These are more of my Parade of Bow Ties. Each one created will be related to a specific location or type of animal. This is the start of my Vermont Parade of Bow Ties. It involves real or mythical creatures and things that relate to the great state of Vermont. This is something that is coming along slowly when I am not busy with other things.

Bow tie Guy of the Day: Wooly Elephabbit

Wooly Elephabbit (ˈwo͝olē ˈeləfabit)

During the spring, in days of yore, the now extinct wooly elephabbit, a large animal about the size of a small horse, was known to prounce around the woodlands causing no end of consternation on the part of the other animals because of the ruckus they would make as the earth shook violently with each leap and bound. 

On the artistic end, I am grateful for the ability to schedule time to draw. Yesterday, I was unable to because of other demands. This time makes all the difference.

The Rabbit-Dragon (ˈrabit-ˈdragən)

This rare small reptilian rabbit can be found scurrying through the dense forests of Northern Europe, New England, and North Eastern Canada. It glides more than it flies and likes to live a solitary life.

This is the last of my rabbit series for a while. I want to move on to endangered species.

Weekly Bow Tie Guy–Rhinorabbit

Rhinorabbit (ˈrīnōˈrabit)

This is currently the second to last of my rabbit series (there might be more if I come up with some other ideas).  While I was working on other types of rabbits this one just piped into my head. I thought it would be interesting to have the trust of a rabbit jump in connection with the power of a rhinoceros' horns.

Weekly Bow Tie Guy-More Rabbits

Uni-Rabbit (ˈyo͞onəˌˈrabit)

This is the next installment of my rabbit series. These will be appearing on series two of my business card collection and I will be printing them on greeting cards.

Most unicorn bunnies are the cute fluffy rabbit with a single horn. A gave this rabbit a more equestrian feel with its prancing, main, and beard. It has more of an elegance associated with the unicorn.

Bow Tie Guy of the Week-Wolpertinger

Wolpertinger (wōl pər tiNG ər)

A mythological winged rabbit with horns and fangs that inhabits the alpine forests of Bavaria in Germany. This is the third part of my rabbit series.

I work on these for a number of reasons. Yes, I log bow ties, but it is also a quick way for me to practice drawing different things and explore use of color. I also use these drawings as part of my personal brand. They appear on my business cards and on my correspondence with potential clients.

I also have many wonderful competing demands on my time. As much as I love to draw, my family, faith, and students, and others take precedence. working on these allows me to better dedicate the time I need to others and still draw on a regular basis. When I do have time to work on a more complete illustration I have not let my drawing skills slide because I am still drawing a little on a daily basis. This Bow Tie Guy project has been a great way to keep my drawing skills up.

It's finally feeling like spring in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. To celebrate, I am on a rabbit frenzy. I have been studying and drawing them for a few weeks. As such I will be posting different kinds of rabbits over the next few weeks.

Illustration Friday-Search

This is the second illustration completed for the exhibit LSC's ABC's the 2014 Faculty Exhibit. I had Q and S (seen here). This is for the letter Q and is titled “Quintessential quirky, quixotic, quasi quadrupeds quaintly questing with quarter-staffs, and queso, for quaggas and a quetzalcoatlus in a quagmire of quicksand to qualify for the quaich.”
