It's National Bow Tie Day!

In honor of National Bow Tie Day I am posting the beginnings of a series of Illustrations. These are more of my Parade of Bow Ties. Each one created will be related to a specific location or type of animal. This is the start of my Vermont Parade of Bow Ties. It involves real or mythical creatures and things that relate to the great state of Vermont. This is something that is coming along slowly when I am not busy with other things.

Seen in the image: Beluga Whale, Rabbit, Loon, Moose, Chipmunk, Blue Heron, Hermit Thrush, Llama, Enfeild, Snowman, Ent, Raccoon.

The Vermonotaur

The Vermonotaur (vərˈmän ə tôr)

This is a personal project I have been slowly finding the time to work on over the last few months. It has had a slow evolution from concept to bow tie guy to a full illustration.

The Vermonotaur is an ancient creature that roams the forests of Vermont. Part man part moose, this docile creature secretly helps the sugarer by checking taps and collecting sap.

Bow Tie Guy of the Day: Vermonotaur

Vermonotaur (vərˈmän əˌtôr)

The Vermonotaur is an ancient creature that roams the forests of Vermont. Part man part moose, this docile creature secretly helps the sugarer by checking taps and collecting sap.

This is the second version of this bow tie guy. The first can be seen here. I like this one better.

Bow Tie Guy of the Day: Moose with Hummingbird, Blue Jay, Hermit Thrush, Red Footed Booby, California Quail, and a Parrot

Moose, Hummingbird, Blue Jay, Hermit Thrush, Red Footed Booby, California Quail, Parrot

So I missed posting yesterday and I thought I would make up for it by posting soothing a little extra. Each one has a bow tie. Some are just harder to see. There are seven in total.

Day 25 of 31 Creature Bow Ties

Vermont Minotaur (vərˈmänt ˈminəˌtôr)

This minotaur roams the woods of New England. I could do a typical minotaur.

Beau Tie Cover

The catalog for the Beau Ties LTD of Vermont catalog is now out so I thought it was a good time to finally post the illustration. The ties worn are actual ties from the catalog. Again, if your interested in looking at the selection of bow ties or seeing the one I designed you can visit Beau Ties LTD here

The First Bow Tie Guy Bow Tie (Moosalamoo) is now available

My first bow tie is now available at Beau Ties Ltd. of Vermont and it is already on backorder (ok so the fabric has been delayed, but it makes it sound like you need to order soon). You can go to here to purchase the bow tie or here to purchase the neck tie.

This is just too exciting.

The Catalog is in the mail. I will post the cover shortly.

Weekly Bow Tie Guy

Moose (moōs)

I am always amazed at how big and awkward these guys are. Years ago I was driving on Rt. 114 in Vermont and a bull moose came out on the road from the left. I was in my Geo Metro at the time and I swear I could have driven underneath it and not get a scratch.

I wasn't happy with my previous moose. so I spent a great deal of time researching and drawing moose over and over. I keep coming back to what I learned in my MFA with Bunny Carter and Denis Nolan. Draw it a hundred times and then you can draw it.
