One Small Exciting Step!

I made my first online sale! Traveling, print 1 of 25 has now been shipped off to a new home. One leg of my table is starting to strengthen.

It was exhilarating to log into my site and see that someone had purchased a print. I navigated the shipping process and sent it off. Having just opened the store a week ago and having a purchase that quickly was a wonderful event.

It helped to have the print on display at the Quimby Gallery as part of the Northern Vermont Faculty Exhibit, Come Together. They wanted a print and went to my site to make the purchase. This emphasizes the need to have multiple legs to support the table as mentioned in my last post.

This first sale is small, but exciting. I know full well that the online store will take time to grow, but it is exciting nonetheless.

Bow Tie Guy of the Day: Beluga Whale

Beluga Whale (bəˈlo͞ogə (h)wāl)

I have been aware of the Beluga Whale for some time. I love the size of their foreheads. It is called a melon and it can change shape which allows them to make facial expressions. They are related to the Narwhal.  The Narwhal Bow tie Guy can be seen here.

The Beluga whale is threatened by ocean noise and oil and gas development. For more information on the Beluga Whale and what you can do to make a difference go to the World Wildlife Federation website.

I love doing this project. I have discovered so many new and different animals. They are all so unique, beautiful, and odd. This makes me appreciate the world we live in more and more. It is so amazingly diverse. It is remarkable how interconnect everything is as well. The more I draw, the more I learn. The more I learn the more grateful I am for the world we live in and for the blessings we have received from God.

Bow Tie Guy of the Week–Narwhal (IF Sharp)

Narwhal (ˈnärwəl)

The narwhal is a small whale that lives in the arctic. For many it is thought of as the unicorn of the sea. The horn is actually a twisted tusk that develops from one of its teeth. Only the male grows the tusk. Sometimes it can grow as long as ten feet. In a few instances two tusks are grown. 

This is the first of my endangered species bow tie guys. The World Wildlife Organization lists them as near threatened there are more than 80,000 in existence today. They are threatened by climate change, oil and gas development and ocean noise. Winter Water Woods

Here is the work currently showing at the NorthWoods Stewardship Center titled “While wondering through a wooded winter wonderland a whale wooly mammoth and wombat wax Wagnerian wearing a wacky wealthy wardrobe.” It will be on display until Sunday. It is also part of the alphabet book I am working on.

Opening this weekend at the NorthWoods Stewardship Center

I am excited to be one of 26 artists exhibiting work at the NorthWoods Stewardship Center in East Charleston Vermont. The exhibit is part of a celebration of 26 years of natural resource stewardship in the North East Kingdom of Vermont. I will be showing an illustration created specifically for the even that also ties in with the alphabet book I have been working on. The title is “While wondering through a wooded winter wonderland a whale wooly mammoth and wombat wax Wagnerian wearing a wacky wealthy wardrobe.” I will post the work at some point after the opening. Unfortunately I will not be at the opening on Sunday as I will be sketching in Europe.
