IF Twirl

This is an illustration I created a few years ago for a book I am still trying to get published. It fit the idea of Twirl well.

The title is 9 Elephants Dancing and it is for the book The Twelve Elephants of Christmas. The center elephant is a parody of one of Degas ballerinas. When I was in high school I had this dream of recreating Degas with elephants instead of women. Some Ideas just stick with you until you can get it on paper.

I love the idea of a double parody, what with it being Christmas Elephants and Degas Elephant... Super entertainment value going on, here. I also really like that streak of negative space that leads your eye through the crowd, and the attention given to each elephant. This is great!

Reminds me of a cartoon I used to watch when I was little called Babar http://inevergrewup.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/babar.jpg Thanks for the memories :)
