A Few of My Childhood Heroes: Spock

This evening the Visual Arts Faculty Exhibit at Lyndon State College opens. We were all given the assignment to create a piece related to the theme of Heroes. This is something I had been bantering around in my head for some time. I have three pieces done and have around 14 more planed for the future.

I noticed a common theme in my list of childhood heroes–they were either under appreciated or misunderstood, extremely wise or smart, just odd, or any mix of the three.

Spock is one of those characters that is both misunderstood and extremely smart. He was smart and in control at almost every moment. I wanted to be like him and I related to being the odd guy out. I cried when he died and was excited at his return.

New Bow Tie Guy

Octopus (ˈäktəpəs)
An eight sucker-bearing tentacled cephalopod mullusk that also carries the weight of figuratively meaning a type of organization that has far reaching harmful effects. I drew this while attending a meeting. I often draw at meetings to do something productive.

Me at the Society of Illustrators

Not that I usually like to post images of myself, but this was exciting for me. As mentioned earlier I had an illustration in one of the galleries at the Society of Illustrators in New York. It was a wonderful weekend. I learned a lot and I got to spend time with some great artists and good friends.

Weekly Bow Tie Guy

It's been a busy start to the semester and I have been fighting for time to draw. These are two drawings that showed up in my sketch book recently. I am hoping to finish a major personal project by the December. It is coming along slowly.
